The Challenge

Spotify was launching Audiobooks and needed to break through digital noise with Gen Z – an audience that's digitally native, skeptical of traditional ads, and deeply affected by stress and sleep deprivation. The challenge wasn't just awareness; it was repositioning Spotify as more than music and framing Audiobooks as a genuine tool for mental wellness. With 72% of Spotify's users identifying as Gen Z and 30% reporting sleep loss due to stress, there was a clear opportunity to connect audio storytelling to emotional well-being.

The Idea

An out-of-home platform extension bringing immersive audiobook storytelling into physical spaces. Positioned Spotify's new Audiobooks feature to Gen Z as a mental wellness tool through branded listening pods equipped with 8D audio, integrated with app experiences and social amplification on TikTok and Instagram.

Visual Identity

The identity system emphasizes sensory immersion through atmospheric color palettes built from Spotify's signature green layered against soft, dreamlike gradients evoking the feeling of drifting into a story. Typography is expressive and editorial – bold display fonts paired with airy body text. Motion and spatial depth are central to the language, reflecting the 8D audio experience, making everything feel dimensionally immersive rather than flat.

  • OOH Pod Design: Curved forms, ambient lighting, and tactile materials signal safety and calm in busy public spaces
  • Sonic Design: 8D audio integration creates spatial, immersive headphone experience unlike traditional stereo
  • App Integration: Fluid transitions, sound-reactive visuals, and minimal friction UX gets users into stories in seconds
  • Sleep Tech: Integration with Apple Health and Fitbit for contextual audiobook recommendations aligned with sleep patterns
  • Social Extension: TikTok and Instagram assets extend reach through user-generated listening experiences and story clips
  • Wayfinding: Rush-hour nudges and location-based notifications encourage pod discovery and app engagement
